Mathematics is partly the study of counting and measure, and the logical relationships between them. Yet how ironic it is that some of the greatest advances in have been made by the substitution of letters for numbers!

    Some how this does nothing to demystify the mathematics of geometry, though does convey the mystery of calculations quite aptly.

      You’re right: it doesn’t demystify it at all. My apologies! If anything, it does make more of a mystery of calculation. For a long time, I’ve been fascinated to see how using unknown constant and variable quantities, represented by letters, helps to solve equations. Although I know how to do algebra, why it works is still a mystery to me.

    Now I like that I like the effect it has on the eyes if you look long enough….I am useless at maths …full stop.
