The Little Shadow (2013). Digital collage created & copyright © by Eric Edelman. All rights reserved.
Our little shadows keep us company everywhere.
They trail after us like faithful pets; they run ahead of us; they playfully hide from us at noon. As we move toward light, the little shadows love to magnify their size and their illusion of importance.
Yet those are only the visible little shadows. We have other ones that we never see because they live inside us. The inward little shadows also follow us, or precede us, but never disappear. Their importance is independent of their size, and thus they need not magnify it. We magnify our little inward shadows whether or not we are aware of them—but never as much as when we deny their existence.
